In love with the taste of Caribbean cuisine

TASTE OF ST. MARTIN

From the very beginning, our founders Anne and Stefan have always raised anchor from Hamburg to discover the different flavors of the world and bring them to your home in the form of inspiring spice mixtures.

This time Stefan and his team went to St. Martin, in the Caribbean. We were able to meet impressive people there who invited us to take a look behind the scenes and tell us their very personal Caribbean recipes. With this authentic inspiration in hand, we created two Caribbean spices. This way you can bring a bit of holiday flair home and bring the taste of St. Martin into your kitchen!

A culinary journey of discovery to St. Martin

Milo, the only spice dealer in St. Martin, gave us very personal insights into her colorful life. With Lewis and his wife, Stefan felt reminded of the beginnings of Ankerkraut. And while Thalia introduced us to the secrets of St. Martin's street food cuisine, we were able to experience French haute cuisine from Amaury and Dimitri. We captured all of these unforgettable experiences (and many more) in travel vlogs, which you can watch here:

St. Martin – The friendly Island

Although the island is only 87 km² in size, it is home to over 80 different nationalities. Because of its cosmopolitan nature, St. Martin is also affectionately called “The friendly Island”. It is also the smallest inhabited island in the world divided by a national border. The northern part of St. Martin belongs to France, the southern part to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. That's why the island has two names: Saint Martin and Sint Maarten.

However, St. Martin has become famous for its spectacular airport, where planes take off and land right above “Maho Beach”. You can see more of our favorite places on the map.

Caribbean recipes

St. Martin's cuisine is characterized by numerous cultural influences: Creole street food meets French haute cuisine. The result is a variety of flavors that we would never have expected in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Connoisseurs therefore also speak of the “culinary stronghold of the Caribbean”.

We particularly enjoyed three Caribbean specialties: Sauce Chien, Callaloo Soup and Shrimp Creoles. That's why we've brought these three recipes for you - and of course two delicious Caribbean spices with which you can bring Caribbean cuisine into your home.

An unforgettable trip

Palm-lined beaches, crystal-clear water, inspiring people, stories and dishes - we experienced all of this on St. Martin and couldn't get enough of it.
