From important basics such as oregano, paprika or curry to special salts from Hawaii and pepper compositions made from nine different grains - to homemade mixtures for the stove and rubs for a perfect BBQ experience. Ankerkraut stands for high quality. Each mixture is developed with love and expertise and is intended to bring joy and spice back into your kitchen and to the grill. The founders are particularly proud of the first organic-certified spices and spice mixtures in their range. In this country it is a long way before a product can officially bear the organic seal. Now this is for the first Ankerkraut Products made. Homemade organic barbecue sauces have recently been added to the range and ensure an unforgettable taste experience. The recipes were developed with a passion for good food and (double) a lot of heart by the taste professionals themselves. At Ankerkraut The Advent season has a very special significance and planning for the “Christmas” project begins in January. Anne and Stefan Lemcke “produced” the first spice Advent calendars together in their own living room in 2013 and stocked them individually. By the way: that one Ankerkraut Advent calendar was the first spice advent calendar on the market! Starting with an edition of 500 pieces and only one variant, the Advent calendars have developed into an integral part. Due to the constantly increasing demand, the circulation has been multiplied - and it continues to rise.

First was the journey

Learned as a child ANKERKRAUT-Founder Stefan Lemcke knows and loves African cuisine locally. The intensity of the smell and taste of a simple, homemade curry fascinated him early on and hasn't let him go ever since. The smell and taste of spices, herbs and peppercorns in African markets cannot be compared to anything from the local region and are therefore an absolute enrichment for the local cuisine. However, given their long journey to our region, the question of proper processing and storage always arises in order to preserve the unique aroma in its full quality and bring it to people's homes. The traditional offices in Hamburg's Speicherstadt have been a contact point for spices from all over the world for centuries and are therefore an ideal source of supply for ours ANKERKRAUT Raw materials.

Family business with passion

In 2013, Stefan's idea finally became a family business: his wife Anne came on board and took over the helm alongside her husband. Initially, the two Lemckes used their own kitchen for production and packaging, but the working time invested consumed a large part of their private life. Despite the birth of the second child at the same time, passion and conviction were strong enough to withstand the strain until supporting staff could be hired at the end of the first year. Success proves Anne & Stefan right again and again. Until today ANKERKRAUT represented in around 5.500 stores in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. More than half of the shops are supermarkets. Furthermore, has Ankerkraut now also has a permanent place in the spice shelves of many hardware stores, grill retailers, grill schools, butchers, delicatessens, wine depots and unpackaged stores. And last but not least, our own online shop offers customers the opportunity to shop around the clock for their favorite spices to their heart's content and from almost anywhere - spices and spice mixtures of such outstanding quality find their grateful buyers everywhere.
